Day 2 of speeches. All children were very brave to stand in front of the senior syndicate and present their speeches. Topics ranged from "Future Technology" - "Feeding Rabbits" - "Irish and Scottish legends". Congratulations everyone - this is quite an achievement.

Today we had a wonderful day at Hagley Park playing soccer and netball with other Catholic schools within the Christchurch Diocese. All children from Years 5 - 8 were involved in this tournament. Students from Catholic Cathedral College came to the park to assist with umpiring the games. They did so willingly and seemed to enjoy the game too. We do appreciate their input today and over the past season on Thursday afternoons. Of course we can't forget our wonderful parents who helped out - Sina Tait, Kate Flutey and Blair Kenton. We also had the enthusiasm and energy of Anna Edzes today so a big thank you to her. Here are some photos of us having fun and giving our best to the sports. I was very proud of you all.

Miss Edzes started reading "Matilda" to us. Another great book by Roald Dahl.
This week we are presenting a prayer service to the school. Our prayer service is about "God's Promises". We have worked hard creating a prayer. Here we are writing our prayers in sgraffito style.
Onto the next part of our prayer service. We will be reading and role-playing promises from God and us.

In Room 4 we are learning to take responsibility for our own learning. While working through tasks we solve problems together (collaborative learning) or individually. When given tasks we must find relevant information, explore the best ways to record the information and decide how newly learned knowledge and facts will be presented.
Here are some photos of us working together, alone and with Miss Edzes.

Term 3
This term we start with a student, Anna Edzes from the University of Canterbury, working in Room 4. This week and for the next 2 weeks, Anna has full control teaching in Room 4. She has planned and is teaching innovative, fun and interesting lessons that promote discovery, discussion, debates, reading, role playing, research and presentations.
The children are being taught by Constable Ross (our Police Education Officer) about Keeping Ourselves Safe at home, school and when using computers. This unit is to be followed by a unit about sustainability/our carbon footprints.
The children have settled well into term 3 and continue to work hard. We are looking forward to a busy term full of activities, fun and learning.
Look for more posts and pictures.
